TEST: Apple iPad Mini with Retina 4G 128 GB - CHIP

At first glance, the iPad Mini with Retina is no different from its predecessor: the diagonal of the screen is still 7.9 “, the size and weight of the device remain unchanged. Accurate measurements reveal, however, minor changes: the new iPad Mini with Retina display is about 20 grams heavier (weighs 340 grams) and about 0.3 mm thicker. In practice, however, it is not perceptible.

Apple engineers have introduced several modifications in the bowels of the machine. First of all fourfold increased screen resolution. It is now 2048 x 1536 pixels, which puts the iPad Mini with Retina on a par with the new iPad Air and provides an incredible sharpness. This resolution translates to 324 ppi pixel density. In this respect, to compete with the iPad Mini could only new Google Nexus 7 (323 ppi).

average performance, fast CPU

The results of measurements of the screen of the new iPad Mini are good but not the best in comparison with competitors. The intensity of illumination at the level of 400 candelas per square meter makes nice bright screen, but the new tablets from other manufacturers fall out even better. Similarly, presents the question of contrast: 135:1 contrast checkerboard is high, but not impressive. Analysis of distribution of illumination reveals even some imperfections: although it is generally quite uniform, but not like the previous iPad Mini. Contrast bounce 5:1 is at a good level and the viewing angles, typically for IPS screens are very stable. Finally, we evaluate the screen into four, but not five.

To provide sufficient computing power to handle the screen with a higher resolution, the iPad Mini is equipped with a retune known from the iPhone 5S and iPad Air dual-core, 64-bit system A7. So far few applications are able to bring it to the limits of performance, although – as always – the emergence of another is just a matter of time.

This is basically the end of the changes in the structure of the device. Still it is equipped with an unusual interface, Apple Lightning, for it lacks the USB port or memory card slot. LTE version now supports more frequencies, so that cooperates with European 4G networks. WiFi also changed – it is still compatible with 802.11n, but it supports MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology providing higher data rate.

iOS 7 and phenomenal time

Like other tablets and smartphones, Apple’s new iPad Mini is running the operating system iOS 7 Tests have shown that the hardware works perfectly with the software so that the system works perfectly smoothly, rapidly responding and starts appy without noticeable delays. Android and Windows are in this respect still a lot of catching up to do.

Despite the use of efficient A7 processor, iPad Mini with Retina long operated without charging. About 7 hours watching movies or 6:41 h to surf the Web is a great result. The charging time is approximately four hours, like its predecessor.

iPad Mini still has a unibody enclosure. It is perfectly executed and brilliantly in the hand.

Apple iPad Mini with Retina 4G 128 GB – Summary

iPad Mini with Retina display is a dream come true for fans of small tablets Apple: high-resolution screen, as well as modern A7 processor and robust battery that make it a leading position among tablets. The new Mini persists even iPad Air.

For the enjoyment of the Retina screen you need to pay extra few hundred dollars, while the first iPad Mini has the same dimensions and the same high quality performance still is on the market. Just like the new model, older iPad Mini achieves excellent operating times and it works very smoothly. Currently, the model comes with 16 GB of flash memory you can buy for 1100 z?, while the new iPad Mini with Retina with the same amount of memory and no 4G module costs 1,700 z?. We recommend the older version to anyone who wants cheap as possible to enter the world of iOS devices-I.
