Each of us had in his hand a tablet with Android and probably not many of them worked decently. Unfortunately, the system of Google’s mobile devices, in most cases is a software that or remind the user about their flaws. But recently I got to play with the tablet Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL that I can say at the outset – it works quite well and does not reject at first contact, despite that it has been over a year. I invite you read the entire review.
Hardware
Asus Transformer Pad is a tablet TF300TL with interesting properties. In the middle we find quad-core processor Nvidia Tegra 3, which is the older brother of model Tegra 4 RAM in this model is exactly 1 GB, and the amount of built-in internal memory is 16 or 32 GB (expandable with a microSD card), a standard for such equipment. The screen has a resolution of 1280 × 800 with dimensions of 10.1 inches. The equipment probably does not stand out, if not for the processor from Nvidia, which was to be a revolution in the world of tablets.
Screen
TF300TL has an IPS screen, which at its resolution of 1280 × 800 looks pretty good. At 10 inches you would be tempted to a greater number of pixels, but the legibility of text and icons on the desktop is satisfactory and do not feel the hugely screen “pikselozy”. Brightness is good, although it is not a strong point of the Transformer. After dealing with AMOLED screens, the attention to black, which in this model is disappointing. The screen is part of the middle shelf.
Due to the lack of physical buttons, the bottom bar of the display is occupied by the programmatic equivalent.
Connectors and Accessories
This model job microHDMI connector, which is a big plus. It is worth noting that the tablet can be connected into a special docking station that transforms it into a netbook (unfortunately not had the opportunity to test this solution). From what I’ve seen on the forums, but a lot of people are deceived that the new Transformer requires a new dock. At the end I will add a small mention of USB, or lack thereof. We have special connector cable which ends with a set of USB output. Thus, for example, do not connect a USB drive easily (unless you have a docking station that has an entrance, a coincidence? Do not think so …).
LTE modem
An extremely pleasant surprise is the modem, in this case LTE. This allows you to enjoy internet access anywhere, without the need to count on the fact that where we go / go stagnation WiFi.
Camera
Not to forget about the camera. Transformer Pad has two cameras, one front (1.2 megapixel) and rear (8 megapixels). While this front, for obvious reasons, does not have to be sensational (videoconferencing), it is hoped that the pictures made the rear camera will be even decent. I was a little disappointed, because without augmentation can see that the effects of the camera are weak (blurred edges, blur, noise). The diode Illuminates we forget.
Speaker
The current model has a speaker on the right side. It was unfortunate positioned, because holding a tablet in a horizontal position, it will hide behind his hand. Sam sound quality is decent, though at maximum settings is not at all too loud. The same can of course strike position of the speaker, which causes some flattening of the sound and discomfort. According to me, it could easily be moved more to the back or the front of the enclosure.
Battery
Built-in battery allows up to 5-6 hours continuous play. Result pretty decent, and for this if you have a docking station may increase even twice.
Desing and implementation
I will mention about the design. Tablet from Asus looks pretty standard and nothing seems to be no fault in this matter (unless you bother someone “boring” design). We get the screen protected with a thick layer of glass, which performs perfectly and protects the screen well. The wide frame surrounding a whole can not be too pretty, but allows free and secure gripping the tablet. Back cover is a plastic that has a rough circles, and comfort of holding this device. Although the tablet does not belong to a large thickness of the thinnest (10mm) is not felt, it probably merit delicate flattened and rounded edges. Here, however, comes to light disputes minus. Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL is heavy. It weighs 635 g and rather no one will hold it in one hand for more than a few seconds. Even when we have it in both hands, feel greater weight of the equipment. The whole thing is a great fit and there is no crashes or protruding edges. Only the SIM card drawer appears to be a bit too delicate and prone to mechanical damage.
Software
Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL is running Android version 4.2.1. The system works quite well and does not feel the decline in the quality use most of the time to commune with the tablet.
12 cores in the GPU will allow you to play the game even more challenging. From Nvidia get an application TegraZone that collects the most interesting games that use the Tegra 3 (and in fact, these are shortcuts for Google’s traps at the mall). Differences appear in games, but only in those suitable for the new processor. The possibilities are great, but for example in Dead Trigger 2 happen to be cropped during the game. In tests Tegra processor however is average. Older model of the CPU / GPU from Nvidia does not stand out too much on the background of current devices (especially from the Tegra 4, which is more than twice as fast in most tests). By purchasing this device model do not expect high performance benchmarks (hence there is nothing to be surprised that Ouya based on Tegrze 3, not zwojowa?a market).
but running the same system? Android 4.2.1 with Tegra 3 performs well. Optimized battery allows for a much longer time. The system is not doing significant cropping, as happens in other tablet software from Google’s. Problems occur only when we have something running in the background (eg Chrome), although it may already be the fault of only 1 GB of RAM. In general use is very pleasant and when watching movies, working with office suite or browsing the internet you can not have reservations.
Android itself but sometimes makes itself known, and Tegra will not help him. After installing / uninstalling dozens of applications from market you can feel the rare “doczytywanie” of the system. Some applications sometimes also non-optimized for the tablet or Tegra, example is Firefox (something here could also spoil Mozilla, which FirefoxOS and can not always help). These popular software for browsing the internet is pretty chimerne. Scrolled the page (eg news on dobreprogramy.pl) is pretty funny, because the image lags or disappears for the duration of the scroll. I also complain about Chroma, who likes to eat RAM and the opening / closing a bookmark or typing the address of the keyboard sometimes loses contact with the user.
worth noting that Asus has equipped the tablet with several applications at startup. Therefore get Polaris Office 3.0, SuperNote to create notes and software to buy books and magazines: Kindle, Press Reader and Zinio. A nice gesture is 8 GB of free space in the cloud Asus.
Summary
Asus Transformer Pad TF300TL seems to be a typical tablet with Android. We must admit, however, that as from Google’s system is fast and reliable. Good quality, interesting processor from Nvidia (sadly unused) and LTE model further encourage the purchase. This enthusiasm, however, can cool price – about 1 600 z? for a version without the dock. But I think that there is nothing to deceive, efficient Android tablet will cost more than 1 000 – 1 500 z?, if you do not want to bother with a slow system. Does this model, however, is worth exploring? It is not easy to assess. Mature Tegra 3 comes off quite well in the tests, despite the fact that the system works pretty well. Shop around for more interesting models, not necessarily based on Nvidia technology. You can also wait until prices fall to around 1 000 z? (or for such amount to buy a model with no modem LTE).
